For Monbukagakusho (MEXT) Scholarship “Passing Certificate of the First Screening” holders 

Applicants who have applied for Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho: MEXT) Scholarship for 2024 (Research Students) and have passed the first screening conducted at the Japanese Embassy / Consulate General and wish to enter Doshisha University should read carefully the following information to request a letter of acceptance.

Note:
A letter of acceptance cannot be issued for those who have not passed the first screening at the Japanese Embassy/Consulate General.

Documents required

  1. Letter of Acceptance Request Form (Please use either one file.)
    Request form for those who wish to study in English[Excel 24KB]
    Request form for those who wish to study in Japanese[Excel 27KB]
    ※If you wish to study in English, please check the courses taught in English from the website below.
    English-based Degree Programs
  2. Copy of the “Passing Certificate of the First Screening”
  3. Copies of the documents that you submitted to the Japanese Embassy/Consulate General
    • Application for Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship form
    • Field of Study and Research Plan
    • Academic transcript for all academic year of university attended
    • Certification of graduation or degree certificate of the university attended
    • Recommendation letter from the president /dean or the adviser of the current university attended or the last university attended
    • Medical certificate
    • Abstract of thesis
    • Recommendation letter from the present employer (if currently employed)

    * Please submit all the above documents which have a confirmation seal affixed by the Japanese Embassy/Consulate General.

  4. Certificate of Japanese / English Proficiency
    ※If you wish to study in Japanese, you must submit Japanese Language Proficiency Level verification form.
    (ex. a copy of JLPT exam results)
    If you don't have, please submit the prescribed form for 'Proficiency in Japanese'[PDF 32KB].
  5. Copy of your passport (if you have one)

Application Deadline

All application documents must arrive at the Office of International Students no later than 5 pm, Japan time, on August 25(Friday), 2023.

  • Please note that we are not able to accept requests after the deadline.
  • We are not able to process the documents and inquiries during the closed period of our offices from August 11 to 20 for a summer break.

Applicatns for Graduate school of Science and Engineering must submit all application documents to Office of International Students no later than 5 pm, Japan time, on August 4(Friday),2023.

Application Review and Notification

Once the Office of International Students receives all the required documents, we will ask graduate schools to screen the documents to issue an acceptance letter. The Office of International Students will send a completed letter of acceptance to successful applicants upon the screening.
Soon after receiving the letter of acceptance, please submit it to the Japanese Embassy/Consulate General as instructed by them.

*NOTE*
Please read carefully the following points on gathering information prior to making inquiries:

Note 1:
In most cases, Doshisha University initially accepts applicants with MEXT Scholarship as a Special Student (Research Student) status. Therefore, if you wish to obtain a degree, you must change your status to Regular Student by passing the adjustment of status examination after arriving in Japan within the appointed period.
Note 2:
Please find more information about the graduate schools and majors offered at Doshisha University to see if it fits with your proposed research plan and purpose for study abroad. In addition, please find a supervisor in the common field of study who is willing to guide and oversee your research for the entire duration of your studies.
Note 3:
Please note that we cannot issue a letter of acceptance for those who are limited in Japanese proficiency to pursue the degree courses conducted in Japanese.
